RazorPicks 08 — Week 8 My Picks
Oct 18
Here they are:
- #7Texas Tech @ Texas A&M
The Red Raiders are going for their first ever 6 game winning streak against the Aggies. The Aggies have just been dreadful this year thus far. I look for the Red Raiders to have no problem moving the ball and if their defense can improve just a bit over last week when they gave up 21 4th quarter points to Nebraska at home, they should coast.
Raiders 49 Aggies 24 - #22 Vanderbilt @ #10 Georgia
Now comes the meat of the Commodores schedule and it begins in Athens. While the Bulldogs haven't been THAT impressive in any of their wins this year, they have just continued to win. The Commodores have to be able to move the ball on the ground or this game could turn out to be their 2nd loss of the year. Don't look for this to be a blowout. The Commodore defense is still very good. I think the Bulldogs have just enough in the end though at home.
Commodores 13 Bulldogs 24 - Ole Miss @ #2 Alabama
Houston Dale has already pulled one upset, and the only win the Rebels have in Conference this year was in the Swamp. Can HDN pull the upset again? Not so fast my friend. Bama already had their let-down for the year last week. So don't expect it to happen again. JPW and the Tide roll in this one.
Rebels 13 Tide 34 - #16 Kansas @ #4 Oklahoma
The team I feel sorry for the most this week? Easily the Jayhawks as they have to travel to Norman this week after the Sooners gave a very poor performance in the second half of last week's Red River Rivalry. Even though Kansas is a good team again this year, the Sooners are looking to make up some ground after their loss and will want to score some points. They will.
Jayhawks 21 Soooners 52 - #12 Ohio State @ #20 Michigan State
I know that Ohio State has won something like its last 12 road games in conference. But that is kind of like saying I have walked across the road 12 times without getting hit by a car. It is pretty easy in the Big 10. This week however, they will come up against a very good and fastly improving Sparty team. I like Ringer and the Spartans to stop Pryor and the Buckeyes.
Buckeyes 13 Spartans 21 - #18 North Carolina @ Virginia
The Tar Heels are playing some very good football right now. They are going into a game against a team though that might actually be playing better than they are. The Tar Heels will have to do it without one of their best players in Brandon Tate who was lost in the Notre Dame game for the season with a knee injury. I still think the Tar Heels have enough confidence and more talent to pull off the close win on the road.
Tar Heels 28 Cavs 24 - Arkansas @ Kentucky
After the enormous confidence-building win on the Plains in Auburn last year, this Bobby Petrino team may have turned the corner. They played well for 4 quarters and twice fought back from 10 point deficits. Look for this to be a very low scoring affair as the Wildcats have one of the best defenses in the conference and the Hogs improving defense gets it shot at another inept offense. If the Hogs can win consecutive conference games on the road, it could signal the start of a strong push to the end of the season and a possible bowl bid. Amazing huh? Exactly.
Hogs 21 Wildcats 20 - #13 LSU @ South Carolina
This game all depends upon how the Bengal Tigers respond to the butt-whipping they received in Gainsville last weekend. After that 30 point loss, the Tigers have to respond in a big way. They have to travel on the road to possibly the best defense in the SEC. Look for a LOT of hard hitting and just enough big plays to get Mike the Tiger the win.
Tigers 24 Gamecocks 17 - Stanford @ UCLA
The first year under Slick Rick has been interesting to say the least for UCLA. It started with a bang by beating Tennessee at home. Then followed that up with the worst loss in the recorded history of UCLA football at BYU. So, has that defense improved enough to stop a decent Stanford team? I don't think so and even at home the Bruins can't win this one.
Cardinal 27 Bruins 14 - #11 Missouri @ #1 Texass
It is really quite simple what Mizzou has to do to win this game and pull off the upset. Run the football and run it effectively. They lost at home last week because they couldn't run the ball and couldn't in turn protect Chase Daniels. After getting knocked around by OSU, the Shorthorns defense has to be licking their chops. However, the play-calling HAS to be better and the OL has to block and get holes for the running game of the Tigers. If they can do that, they can win. They aren't going to stop Colt McCoy and the Shorthorns, they just have to limit the amount of time they are on the field. And score every time they touch the ball.
Tigers 49 Shorthorns 45
