almost

almost as in, almost back to the national stage….
the arkansas razorbacks basketball team and their fans have endured some long roads the last 3 seasons…
however, last night, the team showed some signs that it might be ready to challenge for the NCAA tourney again….
the hogs played in maui at the maui invitational tournament….
they drew the #3 uconn huskies for their opening round game….
after getting off to a very slow and precarious start in the first half, the hogs fought back to trail by 6 at the half….

however, poor decisions and lazy defense allowed uconn to build a seemingly unsurmountable 17 point second half lead with a little over 11 minutes left in the game….
then the hogs started applying full court defense and a frenetic pace ensued for the next 9 minutes….
when the dust settled the hogs had reduced the uconn lead down to 64 – 60 with under 2 minutes left…

however, that would be as close as they would get….
Uconn made their free throws down the stretch and arkansas could not capitalize on other opportunities….
the final score 77 – 68 was not indicative of how close the final 5 minutes of this game were….

in the end, still being the first couple of games of the season and the incredible post defense of the huskies did the hogs in…
townes and thomas combined for a total of 12 points and 11 rebounds and steven hill added 8 points before fouling out…
they missed some very good opportunities in the paint that they will eventually capitalize on…

in the end, it was a *decent* showing and I give it a grade of B-….
today the hogs get KU in a matchup today at 3:00 pm…
